Following Release of President Biden’s Budget Plan, Keep US Covered Urges Administration to Follow Through on Pledges to Advance Health Equity, Quality Coverage

Friday, March 10, 2023

WASHINGTON, DC – President Joe Biden has released his FY2024 Budget which includes a commitment to promoting equity and access to quality health coverage. Two Trump-era rules that undermine those goals – ICHRAs and junk insurance – are also currently under review by the Administration for potential revision or rescinding. Today, Keep US Covered's Senior Advisor Sonja Nesbit released a statement following the Biden Administration’s release of its 2024 budget proposal.

“President Biden’s 2024 budget proposal includes policies that are a clear and much-needed investment in improving Americans’ access to health coverage and advancing health equity. President Biden still has an opportunity to improve health equity and restore quality health coverage for millions of Americans. He can do this without any help from Congress. Americans want the President to act quickly and urgently roll back Trump-era rules that created potentially discriminatory schemes like Individual Coverage Health Reimbursement Arrangements (ICHRAs) and expanded short-term limited duration insurance (STLDI), also known as junk insurance. These dangerous plans can no longer remain the status quo, particularly as millions of Americans will seek new coverage options at the end of the Public Health Emergency. That’s why Keep US Covered is looking forward to working with the Biden Administration to reverse these harmful rules and strengthen the health care system for millions of Americans.”
