WASHINGTON, D.C. – Keep US Covered (KUC), a campaign committed to protecting and expanding quality health coverage and improving care for working Americans, released the following statement from KUC Senior Advisor, Sonja Nesbit, in advance of President Biden’s third State of the Union address:

“In the last year, President Biden has made real progress to protect quality health coverage and promote health equity, but more work remains to be done. Three years ago, the Biden Administration committed to review the flawed Individual Coverage Health Reimbursement Arrangements (ICHRA) policy, which allows health care discrimination in the workplace, risks damage to the ACA marketplaces, and weakens workers’ coverage options. Unfortunately, private equity firms and other financial interests have been promoting these dangerous policies at an alarming rate. Now, more than ever, it is crucial for President Biden to bolster the Affordable Care Act and protect quality coverage for millions of Americans. While President Biden and his administration took steps last summer to strengthen our health care system by reining in short-term limited duration insurance (STLDI), it's time to build on that momentum by reversing the last president’s ICHRA policy. We hope President Biden will use his State of the Union address to renew his commitment to health equity and quality coverage for working people.”

Keep US Covered and its campaign partners last year sent a letter to President Biden, encouraging him follow through on his executive order to review and do away with damaging ICHRAs.
